The Fort Lewis men’s soccer team started Friday in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

With only the top six teams advancing to the RMAC tournament and only two regular-season games remaining, the Skyhawks needs more points to secure a spot in the postseason.

Unfortunately for FLC, the Skyhawks dropped a tight game at Regis University on Friday, 2-1, and now there’s a five-way tie for fifth.

Fort Lewis, Regis, Metro State Denver, Colorado Christian University and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs are all tied at 12 points with four league wins apiece. Head to head, FLC beat CCU and UCCS and fell to Metro and Regis.

Fort Lewis (7-8-1, 4-5-0 RMAC) will have another chance to add to its point total on Sunday when it visits South Dakota Mines (1-14-1, 0-9).

Against Regis (8-7-1, 4-5-0), FLC outshot the Rangers 25-16 overall and had an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Skyhawks also had eight corner kicks in the game, while Regis had none.

The Rangers, however, capitalized on their chances, scoring in the 11th minute and again in the 66th minute to build a 2-0 lead.

Fort Lewis got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute when Gabriel Legendre scored on a penalty kick, but FLC was unable to score again to tie the game up.

FLC women shut out Black Hills State

The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team got ahead early and never looked back in a 2-0 win over Black Hills State University on Friday.

The Skyhawks outshot the Yellow Jackets 19 to 11 in the match.

Madyson Barela chipped in her sixth goal of the season with the assist from McKenna Ford in the 31st minute. Danielle Gonzales scored the team's second goal in the 52nd minute with an assist from Avery Lewis.

The win lifts Fort Lewis to 4-8-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the RMAC. BHSU dips to 3-9-1, 2-7-1.

FLC will return to the pitch Sunday when it plays at Metro State (7-5-2, 4-5-0). The women sit at No. 9 in the league standings.
