Fort Lewis College will host a discussion with professional climber and guide Marcus Garcia at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Vallecito Room in the Student Union.
Garcia will share the emotional journey of connecting with his climbing mentor and how he managed the grief that came when his mentor died in an accident. The talk will conclude with a film called “The Mentor,” which documents some of Garcia’s journey.
Garcia has more than 25 years experience of all-around climbing, and has established more than 200 new routes, including everything from traditional, sport, clean aid first ascents and mixed climbing to big walls and desert towers.
The event is free, and there will be a silent auction to benefit The Grief Center of Southwest Colorado.
