Fort Lewis College to host tip-off celebration

The Fort Lewis College men’s and women’s basketball teams have planned a season tip-off celebration for Oct. 21 in Durango.

In anticipation of the 2017-18 season, the two programs will host a part open to the public. The event will feature the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad with a ride on the train from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided at no cost.

Coaches and players from both teams will be available to meet and talk with the public.

Attendees are asked to RSVP to women’s basketball coach Jason Flores no later than Oct. 16. He can be reached at 970-247-7607 or via email at jkflores@fortewis.edu.

Fans will meet at the train station for boarding in Durango at 3:45 p.m. The train will travel to the railroad’s event park and arrive at 4:30 p.m. There will be a 90-minute tip-off celebration at the event center, and the train will board at 6 p.m. and head back to Durango, with an arrival expected around 6:30 p.m.

The FLC men’s team has reached two consecutive NCAA Division II national tournaments and will enter the season ranked No. 17 in the D2 Bulleting Preseason Poll.

The women’s team returns a strong team that went 21-7 last year. Paired with several top-end recruits added to the roster, the women look to be one of the best teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this season.
