The season came to a close for the Fort Lewis College volleyball team Saturday with the Skyhawks falling in three sets to New Mexico Highlands University, 25-18, 25-8 and 25-20.

Fort Lewis ends its season with an overall record of 6-16 and a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record of 6-12.

“This season challenged us as we battled injuries and had players suiting up in different positions throughout the year,” said head coach Giedre Tarnauskaite. “More than anything, I was proud to see the team coming together day after day. There’s no question that they battled and showed up every day.”

The Skyhawks struggled to find momentum offensively, hitting .050 for the match versus .235 for the Cowgirls. FLC outplayed Highlands in the blocking category, 14 to 10. Senior Avynn La Rose led the team with seven kills and four blocks. Freshman Natalia Lambos had 14 assists for the match in addition to 10 digs and three blocks. Freshman Alexis Hobie and junior Kamryn Lopez each added nine digs for the match.

FLC falls to Adams in four

Fort Lewis battled to third-set victory Friday against Adams State University, but ultimately lost the match in four games, 25-14, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-18.

Hobie led the team with 12 kills to go along with 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Junior Joviana Romero and senior Avynn La Rose each chipped in eight kills. Romero was clutch on defense, racking up a career-high 22 digs to lead the team. Lopez followed closely with 21 digs, and Lambos dished out 26 assists.
