Fort Lewis College went down early, stormed back to make it a game but eventually fell to the ThunderWolves on Saturday in Pueblo.
In the second game of the season, the FLC women’s lacrosse team lost 14-11 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The Skyhawks (0-2) trailed 8-3 at halftime but outscored the ThunderWolves (1-0) 8-6 in the second half to make it a game. FLC tied the game 10-10 with 14 minutes, 34 seconds to play, but the ThunderWolves went on a 4-0 run behind two Alix Zierden goals to take a 14-10 advantage.
Delaney Benson and Shelby Madden each scored three goals for FLC, while Zierden scored four for CSU-Pueblo.
FLC was whistled for six penalties to only two by CSU-Pueblo. The ThunderWolves scored four goals on the six FLC penalties.
Regan Olson added two goals for FLC, as did Taylor Cabrera.
Taylor Christensen and Leah Neumann both had three goals for the ThunderWolves.
FLC outshot the ThunderWolves 31-27 and 22-20 in shots on goal. FLC also won the groundball battle 27-23, as Kelli Warmout led the team with six groundballs.
Ally Guerrero took the loss in goal for FLC. She made six saves. Alee Barrera was the winning goalie for CSU-Pueblo, as she made 11 saves.
FLC will stay on the road for its next five games beginning with a match March 5 at Rockhurst in Kansas City, Missouri.
