Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse earns key RMAC win against CSU-Pueblo

Strong first-half offense paces FLC

In a key Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse matchup for Fort Lewis College, the Skyhawks got the job done.

FLC raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first 6 minutes, 6 seconds in its final home game of the season Saturday against Colorado State University-Pueblo. The ThunderWolves bit back with three consecutive goals, but another run of four goals in a row for the Skyhawks gave the home team a strong first-half advantage. FLC continued to build the lead to 10-5 at halftime and held on for a 13-10 victory.

Abby Escandon led FLC with three goals. The Skyhawks received two goals each from Anna Dennison, Regan Olson and Kelli Warmouth.

Delaney Benson, Taylor Cabrera, Brooke Galle and Allena Wolfblack each had one goal to round out the FLC scoring. Cabrera and Galle each had two assists, while Escandon, Ann Nelson and Olson each had one assist. Cabrera led the team with five groundballs.

Taylor Christensen and Elyse Ingram each had three goals for CSU-Pueblo, while Alix Zierden scored two. Emily Eller and Leah Neumann each had one goal for the ThunderWolves.

CSU-Pueblo scored two goals with FLC playing down a woman because of penalty.

Daris Wienk played nearly 45 minutes in goal for FLC, as she made five saves and allowed seven goals. Ally Guerrero was inserted into goal for the final 15:49 of play. She made three saves and allowed three goals. Ane Marie Horton played all 60 minutes between the pipes for CSU-Pueblo, she made 10 saves.

FLC improved to 5-6 overall and 5-3 in the RMAC with the win and sits in fourth place in the conference standings. A fourth-place finish would qualify FLC for the RMAC tournament. FLC is one game behind Colorado Mesa for third place and two behind Regis. Lindenwood leads the RMAC at 15-0 overall and 8-0 in conference.

CSU-Pueblo fell to eighth place at 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the RMAC.

The last game of the regular season for FLC will come against fifth-place Westminster College at 3 p.m. Friday in Salt Lake City.
