Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse gets win over Adams State

FLC lacrosse gets 3 players with 3 goals

As the Skyhawks gear up for postseason play, the Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team got three goals each from Ellie Carpenter, Marissa DiCecco and Brooke Galle to close out Adams State with ease in an 18-3 win Friday at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.

The win marked the fourth win out of five games for the Skyhawks, who will head to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament on May 6-7 at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Friday was the final home game for senior Carpenter, DiCecco, Katlyne Duffey, Mac Harper, Sarah McMahon, Natalie Mitchell, Carly Smoke and Jam Vertner.

Fort Lewis led Adams State (0-11, 0-6 RMAC) 5-2 in the first half. Coming out of the break, the Skyhawks scored 12 consecutive goals to take the largest lead of the game at 17-2.

McMahon had two goals while Smoke, Harper, Megan Longtain, Rebecca Miller, Taylor Cabrera and Nikki Fry all had one goal each.

The Skyhawks outshot Adams State 38-9, and went 18-for-23 on draw controls. FLC also won the ground balls contest 20-8.

Fort Lewis College (8-5, 4-3 RMAC) received the No. 4 seed to open the first round of the RMAC Tournament. The Skyhawks have a hefty challenge as they will go from playing a team that hasn’t won a game all year to Lindenwood (13-2, 5-0 RMAC), which is ranked No. 4 nationally in the IWLCA Coaches poll.

The Skyhawks and Lions will play at 1 p.m. May 6.
