Fort Lewis College’s Art Gallery will host the “Likes Charge” exhibition by Melanie Clemmons with an opening reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday via Zoom and in person. An artist talk will take place at 1 p.m. March 4 via Zoom.
The exhibition has been transformed into a livestream temple dedicated to reimagining networked technology as a medium for spiritual rejuvenation and metaphysical manifestation. A flatscreen reflection pool explores algorithmic filter bubbles, and a smartphone sculpture embedded with 3D-printed healing crystals provides a remedy for social media doom-scrolling. When available for in-person access, gallery visitors become part of the virtual experience via captive webcams.
Based in Dallas, Clemmons is a new media artist interested in the effects of technology on society. She makes videos, net art, installations and VR experiences.
To access the opening reception virtually, visit fortlewis.zoom.us/j/97322121920. To attend in person, RSVP to Melissa Sclafani at msclafani@fortlewis.edu.
The opening reception will limit six people at a time in the Art Gallery and guests can sign up for 30 minute time slots. Indicate time and number of people in party in the RSVP email. RSVP is required to come in person.
To join the artist talk, visit fortlewis.zoom.us/j/93038300846.
Both events are free and open to the public.
