Fort Lewis men’s basketball has earned some national recognition after its 10-1 start.
The Skyhawks are ninth in the rankings to start the year after not being ranked in Wayne Cavadi’s poll. The rankings were published Wednesday.
“The Skyhawks soar up the rankings in what is a hotly contested South Central Region,” Cavadi said. “It can go a variety of ways here, but the Skyhawks are hot right now and get the top-10 nod.”
Fort Lewis is ranked second in the South Central region in power index and is fourth in ratings power index, according to Cavadi.
“ … It is worth pointing out that the Skyhawks have yet to play any of the RMAC heavyweights (Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines or Black Hills State),” he said. “Still, with all that was lost this offseason, to have a balanced scoring attack that is winning ball games decisively is quite impressive.”
Fort Lewis is the top-rated RMAC team in the poll. Colorado Mesa is 10th after being ranked fourth previously. Angelo State is mentioned in the first five out.
