Flavio Guzman opened the scoring for Midwestern State (1-0) with a shot from the top of the box in the 52nd minute.
Albert Rodriguez doubled up the Mustangs’ lead five minutes later on an assist from Juan Farres when he struck from 35 yards out on the right wing.
FLC took six minutes to compose itself before the ball found the feet of freshman midfielder Laurin Weiland.
The native of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, scored the Skyhawks’ first goal of the season from 25 yards out in the 63rd minute, cutting FLC’s deficit to 2-1.
Midwestern State squashed any thoughts of a FLC comeback with Gabriel Cavalcante’s 87th minute goal.
FLC senior keeper Ryan Schaul did all he could at the back of the Skyhawks’ defense playing in his home state.
The Frisco, Texas, native stopped five Midwestern State shots on the evening.
Midwestern State also picked up two yellow cards in the game’s final 30 minutes.
The Skyhawks will stay in Texas for their next game, an 11 a.m. Sunday date with No. 12 St. Edward’s, who tied No. 4 Colorado Mesa on Friday.
