The Fort Lewis men’s soccer team continues to build momentum, as it hasn’t lost since Sept. 14, while the women’s team suffered its first loss after over a month of play.

The men’s team showed its offensive prowess once again, beating Regis University 3-1 on the road Sunday, while the women’s team fell 3-0 Sunday at University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

The men’s team improved to 7-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in RMAC play, while the women’s team fell to 5-1-5 overall (1-1-3 in RMAC play).

Regis outshot the Fort Lewis men 16-15, but the one-two punch of junior forward Gabriel Legendre and freshman forward Anton Hjalmarsson was very efficient, combining for two goals and two assists.

Hjalmarsson beat the Rangers defense and set up junior forward Tomas Duenes for a tap-in 6:54 into the match. Hjalmarrson showed off his touch again, playing a beautiful long ball to Legendre. He then took a one-touch shot off Hjalmarsson’s pass and scored in the 39th minute.

Legendre then took a rebound into the back of net off his head in the 61st minute.

The Fort Lewis women trailed 1-0 at halftime, but their hopes of making a comeback quickly evaporated.

UCCS’s Jade Kinsey scored on a penalty kick one minute and 17 seconds into the second half, and Makayla Merlo scored the third goal at the 52:57 mark to put the game out of reach.

It was the team’s first time giving up three goals in a match since Oct. 14, 2022.

The Skyhawks continued to attack in the second half, but to no avail. Fort Lewis outshot UCCS 7-5 in the second half. No player had more than one shot for the Skyhawks.
