Fort Lewis women run well on national championships course

Running on the national championships course brought a strong performance out of the Fort Lewis College women’s cross country team Saturday.

The Skyhawks finished eighth as a team with 283 points at the Southern Stampede XC Invitational in Joplin, Missouri, while the University of California at San Diego won with 56.

FLC freshman Victoria Quintana ran the 5-kilometer coures in 18 minutes, 55.26 seconds, good for 49th in the field.

Rebecca Bramley took 58th for the Skyhawks in 19:00.78, Emily Bryant was 60th in 19:05.74, Kiara Glover was 63rd 19:06.54, Kristen Ascencio finished 68th in 19:11.23, Erin Renner finished 75th in 19:19.25 and Chloe Boehlke took 82nd in 19:22.05.

Kelsey Bruce of Dallas Baptist University won the women’s race in 16:47.89.

Vincent Kiprop of host Missouri Southern State University crossed the line first in the men’s 8K, finishing in 24:15.96.

William Scoggins turned in the Skyhawks’ top men’s performance in 96th at 26:22.27.

Tate Lagasca finished 107th in 26:29.7, Sylas Schutt was 112th in 26:34.37, Fernando Lucero took 161st in 27:22.14, Michale Walker finished 217th in 28:38.68 and Joey Spinelli finished 236th in 29:06.06.

The Skyhawks were 20th as a team with 563 points, while East Central University won with 121.

Colorado College Autumn Classic

FLC also sent a smaller flock to Colorado Springs the Colorado College Autumn Classic, where the Skyhawks finished seventh as a women’s team and eighth as a men’s team.

Colorado School of Mines won both team events.

Carly WIlborn and Susan Davette paced the FLC women’s team in 34th and 35th at 24:21 and 24:23, respectively.

Elise Wardrobe took 60th in 25:40, Madison Obernesser was 63rd in 25:50, Alexis Work finished 76th in 26:24, Kee Patyon finished 85th in 26:53, Chelsea Beans-Polk was 97th in 27:48 and Angela Grogan rounded out the FLC women in 98th at 28:03.

Mines’ Ann Joyce Miller won the women’s 5K in 22:30.

Her teammate, Nathanael Williams, took first in the men’s 8K in 24:48.

Ryan Mott led the FLC men in 69th in 28:40, Alex Pekoff was 75th in 29:10, John Booton took 84th in 29:48, Jeremy Goetee finished 105th in 30:52 and Everett Johnson took 113th in 31:41.

FLC’s next race will be the Metro State Invitational on Oct. 3 in Denver.
