Fort Lewis women’s lacrosse closes out regular season in style at Adams State

Fort Lewis will now prepare for RMAC Tournament

The Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team closed out a successful regular season with an exclamation point in Friday’s matchup at Adams State.

The Skyhawks (8-6, 6-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) scored the first seven goals of the game and never let up in a 15-4 romp of the Grizzlies. Ryann Pierce led the offense with four goals. Taylor Cabrera and Alyssa Montoya both had three goals. Delaney Benson and Sammy Delli each scored once and dished out two assists in the win.

Pierce had a hat trick less than 14 minutes into the game, as the Skyhawks wasted no time with the struggling Grizzlies (2-13, 1-8 RMAC). They had a seven-goal lead midway through the first half after Benson, Cabrera and Montoya joined Pierce in the quick-striking FLC attack.

Allena Wolfblack’s late first-half goal closed out a dominant opening 30 minutes for FLC, which took a 9-1 advantage into the intermission.

Nothing changed in the second half. Cabrera and Montoya put the finishing touches on hat tricks early in the second half. The Skyhawks extended their lead to 15-2 before backing off and saving some goals for the postseason. Durango High School graduate and Fort Lewis goalkeeper Alyssa Spencer made just four saves in her seventh win of the season. Fort Lewis is playing its best lacrosse at the right time as it closed out the regular season winning six of seven games. The Skyhawks will get the fourth or fifth seed in the RMAC Tournament, and their likely first-round opponent is Westminster. FLC won the only matchup of the season with the Griffins 12-10 on April 2 at Ray Dennison Memorial Stadium.
