An early second-half goal gave the Skyhawks’ women’s soccer team life. Just as quickly, the ThunderWolves took it away.
No. 7 Fort Lewis College trailed 2-0 at halftime at No. 2 Colorado State University-Pueblo in the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. Jackie Strom scored for FLC only three minutes into the second half to cut into the deficit, but CSU-Pueblo added two more goals in the next 20 minutes to put the game away for good, 4-1.
Laikyn Koss got the scoring going early for the ThunderWolves (13-3-1), who had one of their three regular-season losses at Fort Lewis in double overtime back on Sept.16.
Koss scored again in the 57th minute, giving her nine goals this season.
Kacie Licata scored on a header in the 45th minute to put the Skyhawks down 2-0 at halftime. Hannah Andersen added a goal in the 65th minute with an assist from Brianna Garcia to round out the scoring.
FLC was outshot 12-9, including 7-5 on goal. Kaylee Mickens made three
A young Skyhawks team finished the season 6-9-2 overall and went 5-6-1 in RMAC regular-season play. FLC will lose five seniors, including All-RMAC Second Team selections Carolyn Archer, Keisha Green and Courtney Riley and All-RMAC Honorable Mention Haleigh Macomb.
Honorable mention selections Alicia Sanchez and Shayla Malecki will return next season as seniors.
