Four Corners Indigenous Art Market returns to Dolores with rich cultural program

The Third Annual Four Corners Indigenous Art Market will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, June 28, at the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum, 27501 Colorado Highway 184.

The free admission event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will showcase Native artists and culture from across the Four Corners region and offer a vibrant day of art, music, dance and tradition.

The day will begin with an open-air market at 9 a.m., featuring individual vendors displaying their artwork, both in the plaza and indoors. At 9:15 a.m., Adrian Wall will lead an opening ceremony. Hoop dancing by Anjalee Andrews follows at 10 a.m., with a pottery demonstration by Cassandra Tsalate at 10:30 a.m.

Traditional flute performances by Ryon Polequaptewa are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., while Next Generation Dancers will perform at noon and 3:30 p.m. Music by Wall returns at 1 p.m., and Andrews will showcase hoop dancing again at 1:30 p.m. A traditional harvest lecture by Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk rounds out the afternoon at 2 p.m.

Sponsored by the Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance, Friends of Canyons of the Ancients, Colorado Creative Industries, National Endowment for the Arts, Oedit Industries, and Southwest Health System, the event highlights the region’s rich Indigenous heritage.

Visitors can enjoy the family-friendly art demonstrations, cultural lectures, hoop dance performances, music, and a variety of artworks for sale.
