Four Corners Water Resources Center will host a seminar series:
The “Water Law in a Nutshell” seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Vallecito Room, Fort Lewis College. This one-day water law course will cover all aspects of the law related to water rights and ditch rights as applied in Colorado. Subject matter includes the appropriation, perfection, use, limitations, attributes, abandonment and enforcement of various types of water rights. Additional subject matter will include special rules for groundwater, public rights in appropriated water, interstate compacts and more.

“Groundwater Springs: How to Predict Flows Using Geology Maps” will be presented at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Vallecito Room, Fort Lewis College. The presenter will be Chloé Fandel, a doctoral candidate at the University of Arizona. Fandel will discuss how one-quarter of the world population relies on drinking water from karst aquifers, which are vulnerable to contamination and difficult to manage. Fandel works on modeling karst aquifers to predict their response to human impacts.
