Four Fort Lewis men’s soccer players named to NCSAA Men’s All-Region Team

FLC’s Becker named on first team soccer squad
Fort Lewis College men’s soccer star Yannis Becker was one of the most skilled players in the country in 2015, and he was rewarded with an all-region award Thursday.

The postseason soccer awards were announced for the 2015 National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Division II Men’s Soccer South Central All-Region Team on Thursday, and Fort Lewis College midfielder Yannis Becker earned first-team honors.

The junior who has decided to graduate and leave the school after this season earned the spot on the team by posting seven goals, nine assists and 23 points in 20 games for the Skyhawks. Becker’s best game on paper was a 3-0 win Nov. 4 against Metro State when he scored a goal and recorded two assists for four points. Becker also had a two-goal, four-point performance in a 4-1 win over Colorado Christian.

Becker was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-South Central Region Second Team earlier this week. An All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team selection, Becker led the team in shots with 73, shots on goal with 35, points with 23, assists with nine, game-winning goals with four and was second in goals scored with seven.

Senior midfielder Zac Lawrence and junior forward Tamino Kroeger were named to the NSCAA South Central All-Region Second Team, as redshirt freshman defender Sean Cleary earned third team honors.

Lawrence played in all 20 games and started 19 and was third on the team in points with 19 after scoring six goals and seven assists. Lawrence recorded 39 shots, 19 shots on goal, one game-tying goal and one game-winning goal, and was named to the 2015 All-RMAC Second Team. He was also named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29.

Kroeger led the Skyhawks with 10 goals scored in 15 games of action with 11 starts to his name after battling through injuries. He added an assist to finish the season with 21 points, the second most points behind Becker. Kroeger was named to the 2015 All-RMAC First Team, and landed 31 of his 47 shots on goal. Three of his 10 goals were game-winners.

Cleary was named first team Academic All-District team, first team RMAC All-Academic and first team All-RMAC performer. He was also named the RMAC Defender of the Week twice. He saw action in all 20 games and started 19 while playing nearly 1,700 minutes. He finished his first year on the field for the Skyhawks with two goals.

The Skyhawks finished their season 12-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
