Two Durango High School and two Dolores High School seniors were recently announced as the winners of the Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of students pursuing higher education.
Owen Muraro and Ben Ogden of Durango High School and Samantha Abate and Siena Parr of Dolores High School are all a part of their school’s golf teams. They were awarded the scholarship after demonstrating a dedication to academic success, strong leadership qualities and service to the community.
The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship is proud to recognize these four exceptional student-athletes for their academic and athletic achievements.
Muraro will be attending the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he will be working towards his bachelor of science in business administration with an area of emphasis in finance.
Ogden will be pursuing a degree in either mechanical or electrical engineering at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.
Abate will be attending Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida and pursuing a degree in marine biology.
Parr will be pursuing a degree in either cellular or molecular biology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.
The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship was established in honor of Rodney Ems, a passionate golfer and avid community supporter. Ems believed in the power of education and the values that golf instills. The scholarship is open to student golfers who are seniors from a Four Corners area Colorado high school. Applicants must demonstrate their love for the game of golf and how it has had an impact on their lives.
