Four of five teenagers and young adults from Durango were injured Friday night in a rollover crash near Navajo Lake in New Mexico – with one of the occupants eventually airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood.

Lt. Mark Soriano with the New Mexico State Police said two of the five occupants were taken from the scene to Mercy Regional Medical Center and two were taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. The fifth occupant was uninjured.

One of the individuals taken to the Farmington hospital was later airlifted to St. Anthony’s.

The State Police declined to release the names of the occupants of the vehicle Monday.

The rollover occurred about 9:30 p.m. Friday at milepost 25 on New Mexico Highway 511, Soriano said in an email.

The driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid a deer in the road, leading to the rollover, he said.

The New Mexico State Police was the lead agency on the crash and the San Juan County, New Mexico, Sheriff’s Office assisted.

Police arrived on the scene about 9:57 p.m., Soriano said.

None of the injuries suffered by the four occupants was life-threatening, Soriano said.

Soriano said two occupants were older than 18 and three occupants were 17; all are from Durango.

All injured occupants of the vehicle except the individual airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital have been released from hospitals, he said.

All occupants were using seat belts, and alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are not considered factors in the crash, Soriano said.
