A man died in a four-vehicle crash Thursday evening south of Cortez, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash occurred about 6 p.m. on U.S. Highway 160 at mile marker 25 south of Towaoc, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler.
The driver suspected of causing the crash died in the collision, Cutler said. His identity was not released.
Because the victim was Native American, the Bureau of Indian affairs and FBI were investigating the crash, Cutler said.
The highway was closed for about two hours for the crash investigation and cleanup, Cutler said. It reopened at 8:22 p.m.
The crash, on wet roads during rainy conditions, also caused injuries, said Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin.
A sheriff’s deputy responded and provided traffic control. The Cortez Fire Protection District, Colorado State Patrol and Southwest Health System ambulance also responded.
Additional details were not available Friday afternoon.
