Foutz, Blatnick, Hoover take Bayfield School Board seats

Bayfield had 69 people vote at Town Hall on Tuesday with touchscreens and paper ballots, while lots of other voters dropped off their mail-in ballots.

Mike Foutz is the newest member of the Bayfield School Board, and incumbent Carol Blatnick will keep her seat, according to unofficial election results released Tuesday night.

Foutz had 1,345 votes in La Plata County, or 29.8 percent of the votes cast, followed by Blatnick with 1,173 votes at 25.99 percent.

Incumbent Janie Hoover had 1,018 votes for 22.55 percent of the vote, while Debbie Wilhelm was close behind with 978 votes, or 21.67 percent of the votes cast.

Preliminary results showed 4,514 voters cast ballots in La Plata County, and eight votes came in from Archuleta County.

State budget cuts in education, testing and teacher preparedness are among the issues candidates discussed during the campaign.
