I moved to Durango in 1973 and Francisco’s was my favorite restaurant in town until it closed. I was a frequent and loyal diner who enjoyed the great food, hospitality and service and I miss the experience and the Garcia family dearly.
Don’t try to fix something that is not broken. Francisco’s has been a historic Durango landmark for almost 50 years. The Garcia family started the restaurant with one small building that was run down and on the verge of being condemned. They totally rebuilt and remodeled that building and two other adjoining buildings several times over the years and maintained them in excellent condition and appearance that Durangoans can be proud of.
Walk Main Avenue and you will see that there are numerous verandas, canopies or awnings that do not compare to the quality and appearance of Francisco’s. Had it not been for the tragic loss of their son Ted, the restaurant would have stayed in the Garcia family for decades more.
