Community bonding through bocce.

Bocce courts will be set up and free to all to play and socialize from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at Buckley Park through Aug. 13, according to a news release issued by the city of Durango.

Participants of all ages are welcomed to play as teams, family or just drop in individually.

The activity, developed in Italy, is now an internationally enjoyed sport for both fun and competition, the news release said.

The Wine Merchant, Durango Space and Guido’s Favorite Foods are event sponsors. The Durango Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the weekly event; the Durango Business Improvement District is providing the equipment, which includes balls, court markings and scoring materials.
