The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College will present “The Women Wore White” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 130 of Noble Hall.
On Aug. 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was passed by the Tennessee Legislature, making it the law of the land and giving all American women the right to vote.
To honor this event, humanities scholar Katherine Burgess will discuss the principal events of the movement, the marches and the passage of the amendment by the required two-thirds vote of state legislatures.
Cosponsored by the Office of the President and the Professional Associates of Fort Lewis College, the Life-Long Learning Lecture Series aims to enrich the intellectual life of the college and the community by offering free presentations about a wide variety of subjects.
The Thursday evening programs are free and open to the public.
