The 6th Judicial District Access to Justice Committee will host an event for residents to obtain free legal advice from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
About 16 lawyers specializing in topics such landlord-tenant disputes, family law, workers compensation, estate planning, real estate, wills, contracts and debts will be available.
“This is one-stop shopping where people can possibly talk to one or two or three lawyers,” said Lynne Sholler, the chairwoman of the committee.
Representatives from Colorado Legal Services, which provides legal advice and representation to low-income residents, will also be present.
Lawyers can help residents understand their legal rights in certain situations or answer succinct questions, she said. Residents can expect to speak with a lawyer for 15 to 20 minutes, she said.
