Free mulch loading Saturday at Bayfield Convenience Center

The Bayfield Convenience Center accepts dry, brown yard waste such as tree trimmings, slash and tree trunks and then periodically mulches this yard waste.

Traditionally, residents are required to load the mulch into their vehicles. From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday La Plata County staff members will be on-site with heavy equipment to load trucks and trailers with wood mulch.

Bayfield Convenience Center is at 4496 County Road 223. The transfer station will be closed and not accepting waste during the free mulch-loading.

For safety, participants must remain in their vehicles at all times and keep vehicles in park while loading. The equipment operator will maneuver around vehicles once stopped. For those who want to cover the loaded mulch load before leaving, there is space to pull forward and away from other cars and the loading area.
