I have been reading letters to the editor regarding parking meters. As a young patrolman for the city of Durango in the very early 1960s, I recall the same complaints were being made those many years ago. The City Council thought that idea might have merit, so it suspended plugging the meters.
Guess what? The only people who got to park were store employees! Business owners tried but could not get employees to move. Tourists were then unhappy because they had no place to park. That program died a rapid death, and the parking program evolved to what it is today.
And by the way, if the naysayers pay attention, most cities have parking-meter programs.
