Friends of the Durango Public Library announced winners of this year’s Library Bookmark Contest during Tuesday’s Durango City Council meeting.

A presentation of the winners was held at the beginning of the meeting, around 5:30 p.m.

Two winners were chosen at the elementary, middle and high school levels. The winning bookmark artists will receive a gift certificate to Maria’s Bookshop.

The elementary winner was Sawyer Schmidt, with Jordyn Peterson chosen as runner-up. Natalie Christensen was the middle school winner, and Ema Munoz-Ropotica was runner-up. Winning the high school contest was Mason Turner, with Jamie Beeman coming in as runner-up.

There were more than 150 entries for the bookmark contest this year. Friends of the Library has been holding the contest since 2014.

Each winning design will have more than 2,000 bookmarks printed with the artist’s name on it, and will be available throughout the year at the library and the Friends of the Library Bookstore.

“It was so hard to choose this year’s winners because there were so many beautiful bookmark entrees,” said Colleen Galvin, assistant library director.

The contest is co-sponsored by Maria’s Bookshop and the Friends of the Durango Public Library.
