From a childless dog lady and proud of it! Although I am a little miffed that Sen. Vance didn’t call me out as “anti-family.” Does that mean I’m better than the childless cat ladies? Doubtful.
His comment is hypocritical, whether he meant it sarcastically or not. Is reproducing the only measure for being pro-family? Are just the Democratic, childless women miserable and anti-family, and all Republican women aren’t because they have had or will have children? If they can’t, are they still pro-family since they’re Republicans?
Why didn’t Vance call out the childless cat men? Aren’t they part of the problem as well? After all, it takes their input to get pregnant. Are they given a pass if they’re GOP? It’s the childless Democratic men who are the problem, right?
To judge childless women but not men as “less than” is chauvinism and misogyny. Webster’s Dictionary defines chauvinism as “an attitude of superiority toward members of the opposite sex” and misogyny as “hatred of, aversion to, or prejudice against women.” If the shoe fits, J.D. ...
I’ve never regretted my decision to be childless. That doesn’t mean I’m anti-child or anti-family. They’ve just never been for me. I’m glad people who want kids have them, and I support their decision to do so.
I support school fundraisers and vote for school tax measures because I want the best for our schools and students. Does that give me a leg up in Vance’s eyes? I doubt it, and I really don’t care, do you?
Heck, I’ve never owned a cat in my life and never will, but I’m happy that people who want cats have them. I even have friends and family with cats! I don’t judge people by what kind of pet they have or don’t have, nor will I judge people by how many kids they have or don’t have.
