Frontage road between Walmart and Home Depot to close permanently

The frontage road along U.S. Highway 550/160 between Walmart and Home Depot will be closed after the opening of Escalante Drive to public traffic. The closure will occur in two phases over the next several weeks.

This week, access to the frontage road at the north end of Escalante Drive at Baker Lane will be closed to remove asphalt and add curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Completion of the closure is expected to take about one to two weeks. There will not be access to the north end of the frontage road from Escalante Drive or access for through-traffic on the frontage road between Home Depot and Walmart.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will no longer maintain the travel surface of the frontage road, including snow removal.

The public can access Native Roots from both Escalante Drive and the driveway on the frontage road until the frontage road is permanently closed. All properties along the frontage road have access points directly off Escalante Drive.

On Jan. 2, temporary barricades and signs will be placed on the frontage road, north of the properties where construction is taking place. Once construction is completed, all access to the frontage road will be removed and the road permanently closed.

Escalante Drive at Baker Lane was previously a three-way stop. After the opening of Escalante Drive, it is now a through street with a stop sign at Baker Lane.

Travelers are encouraged to be more cautious in this area as the community becomes accustomed to using this new street configuration and traffic pattern.
