Gallery walk is a 30-year tradition

For more than 30 years, Durango art galleries have been anticipating fall with the annual Colorfest Gallery Walk. They’ll be at it again from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. With the growing list of participating galleries up to 14 this year, here’s a preview of some of those galleries and what to expect:

Sorrel Sky Gallery

828 Main Ave.

Native American painter Kevin Red Star, who will be at the gallery during the walk, will show new paintings, using vibrant colors and expressionistic, bold images to capture the culture of 19th Century Northern Plains Indians.

Karyn Gabaldon Arts

680 Main Ave.

The gallery will feature the intricate, amorphous handmade raku clay and hardwood mirrors of New York artist Jan Jacque and iridescent stained glass mirrors by New Hampshire collage artist Tom Myers.

Earthen Vessel Gallery

115 W. 9th St.

Calling it “Art to Wear,” the gallery will feature the work of textile and fiber artists Monika Astara and Jude Stuecker. There will also be hors-d’oeuvres and live music by local musician Jonas Grushkin.

Open Shutter Gallery

735 Main Ave.

Still on display will be the dreamy, surreal color photo collages of Boston artist Fran Forman and her show, “Out from Under.” Also in the gallery’s Red Room are the abstract and distressed photo transfers of local artist Arista Slater-Sandoval.

Durango Arts Center

(802 E. 2nd Ave.)

The arts center will continue with its multi-medium annual members’ exhibit, “The Natural World: A Fragile Harmony” in the Barbara Conrad Gallery, printmaker Andrew Jagniecki’s show, “Earth, Water, Sky,” in the upstairs Art Library, as well as another performance of the musical “Rent,” which starts at 7:30 p.m.

Toh-Atin

145 W. 9th St.

Albert Dreher will be on hand to demonstrate his oil wash painting. While displaying his haunting, flowing paintings of Southwest architecture and landscapes for more than 30 years at Toh-Atin, this will be his first demonstration there.

Diane West Jewelry & Art

934 Main Ave.

Featured and in attendance will be local jewelers Susan Kemmerly, who will show blends of Prismacolor on copper with sterling silver, Pat Hartman and her fused gold and steel work, and Mary Orsini, who will unveil a new line of wrap bracelets.

Patrice DeLorenzo Fine Art Gallery

1309 E. 3rd Ave, Suite 101, Smiley Building

DeLorenzo ushers in reflections on the seasonal transition with new, soft, atmospheric paintings and pastels. The gallery also will showcase jewelry, glass art, photography and fine wood boxes.

Studio &

1027 Main Ave.

Elizabeth Kinahan opens her show, “The Farm,” featuring striking oil portraits that explore and celebrate all that farming is, was and can be. Kinahan also invites special guest artists to join her, including Jonah Amadeus, Ilze Aviks, John Essen, Miki Harder, Crystal Hartman, Minna Jain, Tim Kapustka, Shay Lopez, Jeff Madeen, Maureen May and Bob Zahner.

Taylor Raymond Gallery

835 Main Ave.

Showing oils, watercolors, pastel and photography, the gallery will display the art of 35 regional artists, including pastel artist Lorraine Trenholm, who will be on hand to give a live demonstration.

Azul Gallery

781 Main Ave.

On display will be new work from multiple artists, including Ayala Bar, Hokanson-Dix, Funky Rock and Sekoya. The gallery will also introduce two new local jewelry artists and will have refreshments, discounts and raffles for jewelry and gift cards.
