Garden Club of Durango Plant Sale a success

Thank you, Durango, for supporting the Garden Club of Durango. Because of generous people in the community attending, our yearly plant sale was very successful.

We extend special appreciation to the following people who donated plants: Brigitte Lutfy, Marge Cristol, Janet Monell, Jean Richards and Jodye Glick. A special thanks to Atmos Energy for the very generous cash donation and trowels for their “Call before you Dig” promotion that we were able to hand out to our customers. Thank you also to the city of Durango for supplying tents, tables and chairs; La Plata County Fairgrounds for the parking lot and use of the general area for our sale; and north and south City Markets for supplying berry flats. Additional thanks goes to The Durango Herald, The Telegraph, Durango NextDoor social site, Durango Facebook Garage Sale social site and community radio stations for all-important publicity before the sale.

We also appreciate our many dedicated club members, both active and inactive, who donate plants and volunteer their time, energy and supplies for the sale. A special thanks to a few husbands who helped with setup: Kevin Ford, Steve Pedersen and Bill Hess; and to our “Iris Ladies” Lee Hayes and Barb Hess, who dug, labeled and sold hundreds of those lovely rhizomes.

The annual plant sale is our club’s only fundraiser to support our community beautification projects. Profits are used to maintain and improve the gardens at Santa Rita Park and to fund the annual Arbor Day tree planting.

Thank you, Durango, for your continued support for the Garden Club of Durango.
