Gardner should preserve methane rule

Senator Cory Gardner is still undecided on whether or not he will vote to repeal the BLM Methane Rule under the Congressional Review Act.

Here in the southwest corner of Colorado, we live under the nation’s largest methane “hot spot.” Oil and gas companies are releasing or flaring methane instead of capturing it, which harms our air quality, contributes to climate change, and wastes taxpayers’ money.

I hope Gardner will take a strong stand to clean up Colorado’s air and stand with taxpayers.

Recently Gardner has been saying that Colorado business owners are telling him to repeal the rule, but as a business owner in Durango, that’s not how I feel, nor what I am hearing.

More than 60 Western Slope businesses and over 30 Colorado local elected officials have asked him to maintain the BLM methane rules, and the recent Colorado College “State of the Rockies” poll shows that 80 percent of voters in the western states want to keep common-sense methane regulations.

Senator Gardner should vote no on rescinding the BLM Methane Rule.
