Gas restored to most homes

Natural gas has been restored to almost all of the 800 homes that lost service Wednesday evening after a valve malfunctioned.

“As of 10 a.m., there were about 45 homes we tagged that we haven’t been able to get to yet,” Atmos Energy spokesman Brian Martens said Friday. “We’ve released the out-of-town crews, and the local guys should be able to handle it from here.”

Crews left tags at houses where no one was home Thursday and managed to get most of them serviced Friday after crews started at 7 a.m. Atmos brought in about 20 crew members from around Colorado to work on the project.

A natural-gas outage isn’t like an electricity outage, where all the homes affected have their power restored at once. A natural gas outage requires workers to turn on each individual customer’s meter and then enter the home to relight all the appliances.

Residents of the SkyRidge and Hillcrest subdivisions who still do not have natural-gas service should call Atmos at (888) 286-6700.
