‘Geezer’ just encourages discrimination

A recent story (“Farm fresh,” Herald, June 29) contained the following sentence: “You won’t find crusty old geezers in ball caps talking down the price of a dusty peck of potatoes.” What’s wrong with that sentence?

The word “geezer,” that’s what. It’s a put-down of elderly people and encourages and justifies discrimination against them. There are laws prohibiting that.

From now on, I trust the Herald will be law-abiding and consign the g-word, like the n-word, to the dustbin.
