Katherine Scott Sturdevant, history professor at Pikes Peak Community College, will present “Daughters and Fathers: Family Secrets Behind Colorado’s Indian Massacres” at the Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society’s meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Sturdevant will discuss the story of Sarah Chivington, the daughter of Col. John Chivington, famous for his role in the Sand Creek Massacre in eastern Colorado in 1864. Sturdevant is co-author of “Massacre, Murder and Mayhem in the Rocky Mountain West.”
The presentation will follow a brief business meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
