The recent editorial (Herald, June 26) acknowledging the generosity of our community was “right on.”
The Cancer Coalition of Southwest Colorado has been able to continue assisting local residents in cancer treatment because of those helping hands that donate to our cause. As a group of volunteers, we solicit help from businesses for their services and silent auction items.
One such establishment is The Palace restaurant, owned by Paul Gelose. Despite a cold, rainy evening in May, Paul served a delicious meal and shared a large percentage of his intake to be used for grants and gas cards. A huge audience turned out to enjoy the burgers and support the silent auction.
Business owners freely gave items for the sale. The Community Foundation manages the funds and writes the checks for an individual’s specific needs, whether for rent, food or gas cards.
No question about it! Durango and La Plata County residents and businesses operate from the heart. We are so fortunate to live in this place we all know as home. Thanks to everyone for your generosity!
