Get government to look into gas prices

We’re part-time residents here for 15 years. Our primary residence is in Tucson where gasoline is about 55 cents a gallon cheaper than here, and that’s for 87 octane regular, not the 86 octane sold here. The difference has been 40 cents to 60 cents a gallon for several years.

The federal plus state tax on gas 41 cents per gallon in Colorado versus 37 cents in Arizona. So where’s the justification on the 55 cent difference?

When I read that Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, was going to launch an investigation into the Animas River spill I contacted his office and suggested that, since he’s in an investigatory mood, he might also investigate why his hard working constituents have been getting shafted on gas prices for years. The gas wholesalers will claim it’s the transportation costs to a rural area, total nonsense! The average price per gallon today in Denver, where commuters have more public transit options, is $2.62 per gallon for regular, much lower than La Plata County.

Contact Rep Tipton and your local state representative and tell them this gouging has been going on far too long and to do something about it.
