Get your local produce from Linda

Say you missed the Durango Farmers Market on Saturday morning, but still want fresh, organic produce grown by a local farmer.

You need go no further than Linda’s Local Food Café in the parking lot of Albertson’s where owner Linda Illsley brings in farmers on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 6 p.m.

“Tomatoes have started coming in, and new potatoes, some greens,” she says her voice trailing off. “It all depends on what they have.”

Laughing Wolf Farm (which has had the most delicious pea pods and sugar snap peas this summer), Adobe House Farms and Calloused Hands farms are a few of the businesses that show up each week.

Illsely’s idea is to help farmers sell extra produce during the week before they go to market on Saturday. For new businesses such as Calloused Hands, her patio serves as an incubator, a springboard from which to test out what sells and what might not.

“It’s their way of learning how to sell before they get into the bigger market,” she said.
