Proposals sought for resource projects

Proposals are being accepted for natural-resource projects that benefit the land and resources of the San Juan National Forest and the rural economies of local counties that have opted to receive Title II money through the newly reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.

The legislation is designed to fund projects that restore watersheds, decommission or maintain roads, remove noxious weeds, thin vegetation or otherwise improve the condition of the national forest.

Project proposals should make investments and create employment opportunities through maintenance of existing infrastructure, implementation of stewardship objectives or restoration of land health and water quality.

To be considered, applicants must coordinate project proposals through the appropriate county and ranger district before submittal. Project proposals will be reviewed by the San Juan Title 2 Advisory Committee in July. The committee will provide recommendations to the Forest Service about which projects should be funded.

Project proposals must be received by the close of business July 1. Proposals must be submitted electronically at http://bit.ly/1GWzgY2.
