Hike to feature environmental art

Allison Andersen will lead a free hike to explore environmental trail art by Mary Ellen Long from 8:20 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Participants will meet at Edgemont Highlands Community Lodge, 40 Red Canyon Trail.

Andersen has maintained and enhanced Long’s art installations.

To RSVP, call 259-9133 and leave a voicemail with name, group size and phone number in case of weather cancellations. Hikers should bring drinking water and wear comfortable shoes.

Program explores animals that come out at night

Instead of its monthly full moon hike, Durango Nature Studies will offer the Dusky Wildlife Exploration Evening Program from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Durango Nature Center.

Andrea Owens, program director, will lead the exploration about many animals that emerge at dusk.

Learn about history, habits of the peregrine falcon

Durango Nature Studies will hold a peregrine falcon workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Durango Nature Center.

Pat Jackson of St. Francis Wildlife Rehabilitation in Arboles will lead the event. She has been rescuing and rehabilitating wild birds since 2004. The facility is the only one of its kind in Southwest Colorado.

The workshop will feature Dooley, a peregrine falcon, tethered to Jackson’s glove as she discusses peregrine history, feeding, nesting and parenting habits.
