After attending a few of the work sessions for the use of Lake Nighthorse, I came to realize just how many good ideas were discussed. It will be tough decision-making for the city and Bureau of Reclamation staff.
One theme was obvious – that multiple use is okay. As far as safety and access was concerned, some good ideas included;
The no-wake zone in the northeast area of the lake should be expanded. This way, paddleboards, swimmers and kids have a much larger area to safely recreate away from fast boats.Make a “No-wake Wednesday” all-day rule.Work on opening CR 211 to the west end of the lake for simple watercraft. This is a large no-wake zone, but much too far for most folks to paddle from the launch ramp area. People would carry in their craft from the parking lot and is in no way a zebra muscle threat. McPhee has these at various places. I heard a few objections, mainly from residents on the west side of the reservoir. This access would be good for all involved if managed correctly.Restrict personal watercraft; everybody agreed on this. Let two-stroke motors on the lake. Don’t make people buy a new motor for a few that think it may be too noisy. This has been long-awaited. I’m sure everybody will get their needs met.
