Earl Reese moves displays from the floor of the Exhibition Hall at the La Plata County Fairgrounds on Monday. Word around the fairgrounds is that the Exhibition Hall will be turned into a command center for the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies working on the contaminated runoff from the Gold King Mine that has tainted the Animas River.
Certain perks accrue to the president of the La Plata County Fair board of directors, as Amy Peterson, current board president, discovered Monday. As this year’s displays came down she earned the reward of a “saved” caramel apple with sprinkles.
