Google also provides fluoride benefits

A recent letter to the Herald (Feb. 17) asserts, “A Google search will give all the information anyone needs about the dangers of fluoride.”

The author failed to mention that such a search would also give all the needed information about benefits. Moreover, the search would reveal that the amount, depth and breadth of data citing the public health benefits of fluoride far outweigh the risks.

If citizens are to rely on scientific information to make informed decisions, they must not cherry-pick data to suit their agenda.

A wise citizen will dispassionately consider and weigh all the evidence, including the testimony and experience of public health personnel. To do otherwise is to step onto that slippery slope of alternative facts and fake news.

In order that our community continues to reap the public health benefits of fluoride in our water supply, please join me in voting “no” on Ballot Initiative 1A.
