Gov. Polis to join CDOT at Memorial Rock celebration

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis will join CDOT to celebrate completion of projects of Colorado Highway 145 on Tuesday.

Gov. Jared Polis will join the Colorado Department of Transportation and area community leaders to celebrate the completion of two projects in Southwest Colorado at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Rock site on Colorado Highway 145.

CDOT recently completed work along Highway 145 between Cortez and Telluride. One project addressed the potential of rock fall along the highway. Over a two-week period, a geotechnical crew mitigated several areas that may have been prone to unexpected rock falls.

The second project reconstructed 300-foot section of the highway that was destroyed when two boulders tumbled down the adjacent slope.

The highway will close at 4:45 p.m. The media and public are urged to arrive at the celebration site before 4:45 p.m. in order to access the traffic control that will be in place near the area. Once the highway is closed, no access will be allowed for about 45 minutes to one hour.
