The Mount Allison Grange will host a presentation by Sherry Woodbridge, president of The Southwest Fiber Alliance, at 4:30 p.m. July 21 at 2622 County Road 229 in Allison (next to the Allison Community Presbyterian Church).
Woodbridge has worked with fiber since 2009. She’ll take participants through the entire wool cycle – from sheep to finished goods, and will have a freshly sheared sheep fleece on hand. Her presentation will include hands-on fleece washing, an introduction to dyeing methods, an overview of the tools used in hand spinning, a bit of fiber history and a comparison of the various types of natural fibers, including wool, cotton and silk.
This is a free event for all ages, and is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
This event is for those who have sheep and want to do something different with the fleece; are interested in getting into sheep; have a 4-H project; or are just curious.
