After my second evacuation and second homecoming, I am amazed, grateful and at a loss as to how to thank, help and repay the overwhelming dedication, hard work and success of the firefighters and support teams from local Durango, state of Colorado and federal teams. The three agencies of first and continuing responders and the communications network has been a coordinated, smooth-running machine.
Yesterday, I was assisted by Denver police officers escorting and assisting those returning to Lake Purgatory. Local volunteers and county employees went house to house with safety literature to assure water, food, waste and septic issues to consider after a fire disaster. So far, no injuries, deaths or structures lost.
No words can express my gratitude for the kindness and professionalism shown during this long and overwhelming ordeal. I am home again on pre-evac notice and may have to evacuate if the fire threatens once more.
Still rain dancing and with thoughts of continuing success in fighting this tragic event.
