Gratitude, wisdom shine through after injury

Watching the Winter Olympic skiing events reminds me of Cyrus, the 16-year-old son of Kristin Harmon and Don Lewis of Durango.

While skiing with friends in Silverton last November, Cyrus broke his neck attempting a backflip. Flight for Life transported him to Children’s Hospital in Denver where he underwent surgery. He is now at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital undergoing various therapies and procedures.

As I read Cyrus and Don’s postings from their GoFundMe account, I am touched and impressed by their gratitude and wisdom:

Cyrus, “I am posting this as a reminder to everyone to be grateful for the things that we sometimes take for granted. To be grateful for everything that you have, whether it is loved or hated, because it can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. I hope that you all continue to work hard to reach your potential, just as I am.”

Don, “To all the people who have offered their support during our family’s journey, thank you. We cannot conceive of any other way forward other than the one you have all offered through your loving gestures. The costs that we face are unimaginable.”

Please consider helping Cyrus and his family with their immense financial burden. Visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/cervical-spinal-surgery-for-cyrus-lewis.
