As your new La Plata County assessor, I wanted to take time to thank my supporters, including the staff of the La Plata County Assessor’s Office.

The state-mandated task of the assessor’s office begins with data analysis on sales that have occurred in the previous two years and ends with the new values you all will see on your Notices of Value that go out in the mail May 1 every year.
This year, 2019, is a re-appraisal year; this means all properties will be re-valued for tax year 2019 and 2020 using sales that occurred July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2018. We refer to this as the 2018 level of value.
When you get your notice in May, you will have 30 days to protest the new value, classification and inventory. Please review your notice carefully and contact our office with any questions. We are happy to discuss your property and welcome these contacts with the public.
We mailed out Personal Property Declarations Jan. 25. These forms go to all businesses, oil and gas operators, gravel companies and other types of businesses. We are offering online electronic filing for the Personal Property Declarations; just go to the La Plata County assessor website and use the easy-to-follow instructions.
The valuation and classification of real and personal property relies on the property owners’ input to assure the mass appraisal process is applied fairly to each property.
