Grizzlies’ block hands Skyhawks a grizzly defeat

Stepping away from the friendly confines of Whalen Gymnasium hasn’t treated the Fort Lewis College volleyball team kindly.

The Skyhawks lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-13) to Adams State on Friday in Alamosa.

FLC (6-16, 6-8 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) hit -.060 in the match with 27 attacking errors.

Adams State (12-10, 10-4 RMAC) made seven blocks in the match and hit above .350 in the final two sets.

Bayfield High School alumna Gabriella Rifilato led the Grizzlies with 23 assists and also had three kills.

Ashley Wells paced the Skyhawks with nine kills, while Madi Bickle had seven.

FLC lost for the second consecutive outing and the fifth time in their last six matches. The Skyhawks will play their final road match of the regular season against Western State at 6 p.m. Saturday in Gunnison.
